Aiguille d'Entrèves

Updated: Mar 10, 2021

This is a spectacular traverse which is around an hour's walk from the top of the lift, the Skyway Monte Bianco. You have to pull yourself up on a few steep sections, which the book rates as 4c, but much of it will feel scrambly on a fine day. By the time we reached the start at the Col d'Entrèves, though, the cloud was coming down. There's a much more exposed ambiance when you see the steep drops through the holes in the mist. Anyway, the trudge in provides fine views across the glacier towards the Vallée Blanche. Below the Aiguille d'Entrèves is on the left, with the foot of the Tour Ronde to the right.

You can see we are on a bit of a knife edge, keeping an eye on each other. There were a couple of others on the route, but no congestion really during the couple of hours it takes to move along it.

We head back to the Torino hut for some well-earned rest. You might wonder why both James and I are in many of the shots. Thank goodness for our brilliant guide Julien!
